The case for one contract

The alternative to a turnkey fit-out is coordinating a joiner, a tiler, an electrician, a plumber and a painter yourself. Plenty of people do it and save money. What they also take on is the sequencing, and sequencing is where fit-outs go wrong.

Tiling before first-fix plumbing is signed off. Kitchen carcasses measured from a drawing rather than the built wall. Worktops templated before the units are level. Each of those is somebody else’s fault and all of them are your problem.

What we cover

• Joinery: fitted kitchens, wardrobes, wall units and built-in storage
• Worktops in granite, quartz or terrazzo, templated on site after units are set
• Flooring: tile, timber, vinyl, epoxy or terrazzo
• Electrical second fix and any board upgrade the new layout requires

Sequencing is the product

The order is the thing you are actually buying: first fix signed off and photographed before anything is covered; units set and levelled before worktops are templated; floors laid before joinery where the joinery sits on them, and after where it does not.

We photograph every wall before it closes and hand you the images.

Fit-out or interior design?

Worth being clear, because in Nairobi the two are sold as one thing and priced as another. Interior design companies in Nairobi produce the scheme: layouts, finishes, furniture, the look. A fit-out contractor builds it.

We are the second. We work happily to a designer’s scheme and we will tell you honestly where a detail will not survive daily use, but we do not pretend the design service is included when it is not. If you do not have a designer, we can build to a straightforward specification we agree with you directly, which suits most residential fit-outs.

Specification honestly

We will tell you where spending more genuinely lasts longer (carcass material in a humid Nairobi kitchen, hinges, worktop sealing) and where it mostly does not. Cheap cartridge mixers and chrome-plated plastic traps are the two items we see back most often, and we will say so in writing if you have chosen them.
